Built Environment

At the Hudson-Webber Foundation, we believe that well-designed, inclusive physical spaces are vital to community well-being. From homes and streets to parks and public places, the built environment shapes how we live, connect, and take pride in our neighborhoods.

Strategic Focus

  • Ensure every Detroiter has access to quality housing, regardless of income
  • Bring new activity to commercial corridors across the city
  • Unlock the full potential of the Joe Louis Greenway as a community connector
  • Balance transformational citywide projects with investments that strengthen neighborhoods
  • Elevate and expand community-led initiatives that drive change from the ground up

We envision a Detroit where resilient, amenity-rich neighborhoods reflect residents’ aspirations, attract new neighbors, and celebrate the city’s identity.

Objective

  • Support projects that serve and reflect Detroit’s diverse communities
  • Collaborate with local organizations and public partners to ensure stronger, longer-lasting outcomes
  • Invest in high-quality, long-term development that builds pride and resilience
  • Encourage community ownership with residents leading the vision for their neighborhoods

Parks aren’t just a place for recreation, it’s a place where people of all ages can come together, whether it’s for youth sports, fitness programs, family events, or neighborhood gatherings. It’s about creating a space where residents connect, collaborate, and celebrate the strengths of our community.”
